Characteristics, Uses, and Fun Facts
Blanket Flowers are short-lived perennials with tons of flower power. Blooms can be found in reds, peaches, oranges, yellows, and bicolors. Easily grown in average to well-drained soils in full sun. They perform poorly in unamended heavy clay soils. Deadheading spent flowers is not necessary but will neaten the appearance of the plants and encourage additional bloom. If flowering declines in summer, consider cutting back plants to encourage a fall bloom.
Native Americans used the roots of Blanket Flower to make an eyewash, and a poultice was applied to skin disorders. The flower heads were used to waterproof rawhide bags.
