Special Care Instructions

Hyssop needs excellent drainage to properly overwinter.

Flowering Time
Hyssops have an exceptionally long bloom time for a perennial- June through September! Individual flowers have a long life on the plant or in a vase.

Characteristics, Uses, and Fun Facts
Hyssop is a wonderful nectar source, attracting butterflies and hummingbirds. It looks best when planted in groups towards the back or middle of the garden (depending on height). The fragrant oils in the leaves make Hyssops extremely resistant to deer, because the plants taste bad.
Hyssop was used by the Aztecs to treat wounds. The Cheyenne used it to treat chest pains, fevers, and induce sweating in the sweat lodges. It is still used today in Chinese medicine.
